Smart Control

Since both the Neato Botvac D5 Connected and Neato Botvac D7 Connected are smart robot vacuums, you will be able to utilize Smart Control. Smart Control works by connecting your vacuums to your phone for voice control, remote control, Google Home, and other home devices. You can give Siri or Alexa commands for the vacuums to follow and let them go about their business. It is easy to set up and you can adjust the settings however you want from the convenience of your smartphone.

Ultra Performance Filters

Both the Neato Botvac D5 Connected and Neato Botvac D7 Connected robot vacuum has the same ultra-performance filter types. The amazing ultra-performance that these high-performance filter are capable of will put these vacuums in a positive light. The filter ultra-performance had been designed as an upgrade for both vacuum models to help them run as effectively as possible. This filter ultra performance contributes to a better cleaning mode.

Design

The Neato Botvac D5 Connected and Neato Botvac D7 Connected are both designed in a “D” shape, hence why they are named that way. They were designed specifically to have the capability to clean around corners effectively. Circular vacuums are not capable of thoroughly cleaning corners as well as the D shaped ones from the Neato Botvac Connected robot vacuum cleaner brand.

The only difference in the design choice for both vacuum models is that the Botvac D7 Connected robot vacuum has a silver finish to it. Everything else about these models are almost exactly the same. The D design was implemented with convenience in mind. Not many other vacuums have the same ability to clean corners. You would not have to worry about this at all thanks to Neato Botvac Connected robot vacuum. Roomba E5 vs E6 iRobot Vacuums Comparison Review

Auto-charge Feature

The auto-charge feature is an amazing feature that both vacuums have that makes them even more useful. If your vacuum is low on battery power, their cleaning performance will not stop abruptly. Instead, it will go to its charging port to get as much charge as they need. They would then continue where they left off. You would not have to start over at all and will be able to do that for every area of your house.

LaserSmart

The LaserSmart feature allows both the Neato Botvac D5 Connected and Neato Botvac D7 Connected to create a map of your house. This will allow your vacuums to move around designated areas to clean. They will be able to work without any interruptions and move freely to wherever they need to go. This is quite a handy feature that will make an easier and better cleaning mode experience than before.

Differences

Battery Life and Durability

A vacuum’s battery life is one of the most important features in determining which vacuum to get. The battery life may depend on how much charge a vacuum can hold. It might also depend on how much of an area it can cover before it needs to make a stop for charging.

Knowing which kind of battery technology is used and the run time of each vacuum is essential to making your choice. The run time is determined by the surface of the floor being cleaned. More battery power is needed to clean rougher floors while smoother surfaces will be more of a cinch.

Neato Botvac D5 Connected: The Neato Botvac D5 Connected can last for up to 90 minutes in a single cleaning session. Once the battery is low, it is capable of going back to its charging port. It will stay there and charge until the battery is full, then goes back to cleaning on its own. This vacuum will be most effective in smaller areas where you may not have to worry about constant recharging. Smaller spaces with smoother floor surfaces are the optimal space to use the Neato Botvac D5 Connected.

Neato Botvac D7 Connected: The Neato D7 Connected robot vacuum can last for up to 2 hours in a single cleaning session. This vacuum is also capable of automatically returning to its charging port when it is running low. It also continues the job once it is finished charging. The difference is, however, that it will require less frequent stops than the Botvac D5 Connected. Its excellent battery life will make the Neato D7 Connected perfect for bigger homes and rooms.

Winner: The obvious winner for this category is the Neato Botvac D7 Connected. It has 30 more minutes worth of battery life for a single charge and could clean bigger houses without frequent stops. If you have a bigger house, you may want to opt for the Neato Botvac D7 Connected.

No-Go Lines

The no-go lines feature will help you place restrictions on where your vacuums should or should not go. This will help keep your vacuum away from the vicinity of a child’s bedroom or help direct them to a sudden mess. You can control it by using your app and telling your vacuums where they need to go.

D5 Connected: Implementing the no-go lines feature will be possible for the Neato Botvac D5 Connected robot vacuum when you carry out the necessary software updates. It is an older model, so this go-lines feature did not exist by the time this model was released.

D7 Connected: The Neato D7 Connected robot vacuum model comes included with this feature since it is a newer model.

Winner: For this part of D5 and D7 Neato robots, the Neato D7 Connected would be more useful to have since it already comes included with this model. Not many people want to go through the trouble of waiting for an older model’s software to update.

Type of Brush

The best robot vacuum’s effectiveness is usually determined by what type of cleaning brush they have, as well as the quality of the brush. If your vacuum’s brushes are not high quality, you will likely have to go back and do some hand cleaning yourself. This would make the purpose of having your own robotic vacuum cleaner null and void.

Always make sure that the side brush on your vacuum is reliable so you will not have to worry about any issues. One similarity between the Neato D5 Connected and Neato D7 Connected is that they are both designed with a side brush that can clean corners easily. However, their primary brushes are completely different. While both D5 and D7 brushes including side brush clean effectively, you will notice a difference in quality when you start cleaning with them using the side brush.

D5 Connected: The Neato D5 Connected robot vacuum cleaner, along with many of the older Neato models, come with a combo brush. Combo brushes are excellent for cleaning up pet hair and harder-to-reach debris. It would be an effective tool to have with any vacuum you buy.: One main problem is that the combo brush could prove to be difficult to clean. It may be difficult to untangle all of the debris that gets caught up inside of it. One upside to Neato vacuums, however, is that the brushes on them are interchangeable. If the combo brush becomes a problem, you can just swap it out for a new one.

D7 Connected: The D7 Connected robot vacuum comes with a spiral combo brush included. The spiral combo brush is a bit more high quality than a normal combo brush and is more effective as well. If you have floors with carpet, this spiral combo brush will be an excellent cleaning tool for you to have. Spiral brushes can clean up hard-to-clean debris and pet hair with ease.

Another advantage of this brush spiral combo is that it is much easier to clean than a normal combo brush. Its straight design makes it a cinch for you to cleanout. The debris will not get tangled inside of the spiral combo brush, which will give you much less trouble during cleaner.

Winner: In this D5 vacuum cleaner vs D7 vacuum cleaner, the D7 Connected robot vacuum has a much better option for cleaning brushes than the Botvac D5 Connected. You would have to pay more to get the replacement spiral brush for the D5 compared to D7 when the regular brush becomes too hard to clean. With the D7 Connected, you will have the optimal brush already on hand. This will give you an overall much better time cleaning mode than what you would have with the D5 Connected.

Eco Mode

High performance eco mode is a feature on robotic vacuums that helps to preserve the battery power. Being able to preserve charge will allow you to get the most out of a single cleaning session. Eco and turbo will allow your Neato robot vacuums to run longer and will help decrease the noise level it has while cleaning. This will be especially useful if you want a quieter cleaning cycle experience.

It will decrease the chances of disturbing your housemates or neighbors. This will be an especially useful feature if you have small children or pets in your house, or if you need to clean up an accident in later hours of the night.

D5 Connected: The D5 Connected is capable of having Eco mode after updating the initial software to the most recent update setting. The update is necessary because the D5 Connected is an older model in the Neato brand and you would not be able to have it without updating.

D7 Connected: The D7 Connected already comes programmed with Eco mode. D7 is one of Neato’s newer two models, so it is no surprise that the D7 Connected would have it ready to go. You will enjoy the amazing benefits of the preserved charge and the quieter cleaning experience of D7.

Winner: The D7 Connected barely wins in this category since it already comes included with Eco mode while you have to let the D5 update in order to get it.

Turbo Mode

Turbo mode is a mode that will allow your robotic vacuum to give your house a more powerful and thoroughly clean. The suction and brush cleaning power of the vacuum is increased exponentially in order to help it clean harder-to-clean debris.

This will also ensure that there is no debris left behind after the cleaning session is completed. In turbo mode, the rotation speed of the cleaning brushes are increased. Turbo mode will be an excellent option to use if you have pets in your house. Even if you have no pets, you will love the exceptional cleaning power that turbo mode will have to offer you.

D5 Connected: The D5 Connected will require a software update in order to have turbo mode available.

D7 Connected: Turbo mode is already pre-programmed into the D7 since it is one of the newer Neato models.

Winner: For Neato D5 versus D7, D7 wins in this category as well. D7 is more convenient to have it already rather than have to update the software to receive it.

Zone Cleaning

Zone cleaning is a feature of the Neato brand vacuums that will allow you to customize your vacuum’s cleaning abilities. You will be capable of setting where the vacuum will go and how much area it will cover during its cleaning session. You will utilize zone cleaning through the mobile app, where a map of your home will be displayed.

Each zone will be labeled for your convenience and you can highlight where you want the vacuum to go. This will be good if you want to prioritize certain areas of your house rather than make your vacuum clean every area. This will save charging power and time for the sake of convenience.

D5: As of right now, the Botvac Connected D5 is not capable of utilizing zone cleaning. There are no current software updates that will allow the D5 to have it. This will cause the D5 vacuum to be a little more inconvenient than the D7, especially if you have a bigger home space to maneuver around.

D7: Since the D7 is a newer model, it does come included with zone cleaning. No updates are necessary to have it available to you.

Winner: The D7 is the obvious winner here. Having zone cleaning will prove to be a convenient feature you will want to have for your robotic vacuum.

Various Floor Plans

Neato brand vacuums are capable of utilizing multiple floor plans to make cleaning mode easier. Neato vacuums will have a map of your house so they will know where they need to go at any given time for the multiple floor plans. This is a relatively new feature of Neato vacuums that come included in the newer features.

Older models would have to be updated in order to have this feature added to their software. Neato vacuums used to only be capable of navigating with a map of one-floor level before this feature was implemented. You can let your vacuums produce maps of up to three levels of your house for easier navigation capabilities.

D5: The D5 would need software updates if you wanted to utilize the multiple floor plan feature. Since it was an older model, it would not be readily available upon purchase. Both the software and the robot would need to be up to date in order to use this feature properly.

D7: The D7 is a newer model of the Neato brand, so it comes included with the multiple floor plan feature. No updates are necessary at all. It will be good to go as soon as you set up your vacuum.

Winner: If you are willing to go through updating your software in a D5, then it could still be a useful option for you. If you do not want to go through the trouble of waiting for updates, the D7 will be the option you will want to go with. It already has this feature ready to go upon setting up.

This will ensure that the D7 is the much more convenient option to choose from. Having a robotic vacuum that is capable of storing the maps of multiple floors will be a must-have if you live in a bigger house.

Quick Boost Charging

The quick boost charging feature will allow your vacuums to go back to their charging ports to recharge when their battery is running low. When they are finished, they continue with their work as usual. Neato brand vacuums had to charge completely to be ready to go again before quick boost charging was implemented.

The vacuum would have the option to only take as much charge as it needed. After getting the charge, it continues finishing its cleaning task. The vacuums have the capability of estimating how much charge they would need to finish cleaning tasks they were working on. They leave their docks to finish their jobs, then go back afterwards to continue charging. Quick boost charging will allow you to save time and energy during the cleaning process.

D5: In order to have quick boost charging in the D5, you will need to allow it to go through a software update.

D7: The D7 is a newer model, so it is no surprise that it already comes included with the quick boost charging feature.

Winner: The D7 would be the clear choice in this regard. It would save a lot of time since you would not have to update your vacuum to have it. This just adds to the overall convenience you will be able to experience with your own preferred vacuum option.

Wi-Fi Capabilities

The Neato vacuums are capable of connecting to different frequencies of Wi-Fi connectivity. Newer routers have advanced levels of Wi-Fi capabilities while the standard routers have a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Dual-band routers are capable of utilizing 5GHz, which will give more power than the 2.4 GHz at a shorter range. 2.4 GHz is exponentially shorter in comparison, but it has a longer range for you to work with.

D5: The D5 is only capable of supporting the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity frequency since it is one of Neato’s older models. That is not too much of a downside, though. The D5 would always be capable of covering longer ranges thanks to the frequency. Most of the time, the range is the most important quality you need out of your robotic vacuum. The Wi-Fi must always be capable of sending the cleaning commands to your robot no matter how fast of a speed level it has. It will not be effective if your vacuum is out of range.

D7: The D7 is capable of utilizing both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Since the technology of the D7 is up to date, it is no surprise that it will work with both frequencies. However, range is still the most important aspect of being able to utilize WiFi connectivity for your vacuums. The speed of the frequency becomes irrelevant if the vacuum happens to wander out of the range of the Wi-Fi.

Winner: For this specific feature, the D5 and D7 are tied. They are both capable of connecting to 2.4 GHz, which is necessary for receiving commands for their cleaning tasks. The 5 GHz frequency is not as useful in this scenario since both D5 and D7 vacuums will rely on the range more than anything to function properly.

Warranty

The warranty of robotic vacuums will come in handy if something ever happens to the vacuum within a certain amount of time. Unexpected problems can occur at any moment, even when you least expect them. It is best to invest in a solid warranty so you can have peace of mind in case anything ever does happen. There is a possibility that you can be covered for any damages or accidents that occur that may cause your vacuums to stop working correctly.

D5: The Neato D5 has a warranty of up to 12 months for the vacuum itself. The D5 battery has a 6 month warranty and comes with UL certifications to support its credibility.

D7: The D7 has the same warranty conditions and certifications as the D5. However, it comes at a higher price than the D5. This is likely because it is a newer and more expensive model.

Winner: If you are working with a stricter budget, you may want to go with the D5 in this case. The warranty is more affordable to gain than D7’s. This is why you should keep in mind comparing D5 vs D7 robot vacuums.

Final Verdict

While Neato D5 vs D7 vacuum cleaners has a few similarities, the D7 vac has proven to be the more effective model between the two. It comes ready with all of the features mentioned above ready to be used. You can save a lot of time and hassle if you choose the D7 over the D5.
