What is the Jura Impressa A9?

Right off the bat, you may be wondering what exactly this Jura A9 automatic coffee machine is. Aside from a home espresso maker Jura A9, what is it that makes this espresso machine so special? It’s clearly expensive and it is made by a well-known automatic coffee machine brand, so it must have some impressive features.

Put simply, this specialty coffee machine is a one-touch touchscreen easy to use coffeemaker that offers almost any type of brewing in your own home. It’s a solid machine with a Swiss compact design and engineering so you can use it easily. You don’t have to be a super knowledgeable barista to operate this Jura A9automatic coffee machine and still get high quality.

Design

As mentioned above, the Jura Impressa A9 is built using Swiss compact design and engineering. It has a very elegant build with compact design and is aesthetically pleasing with a sleek piano black build. The Jura A9 machine is built to be attractive but not draw attention to itself, making it an unassuming background item in your kitchen.

Jura A9 Automatic coffee espresso machines itself is impressively compact design. It weighs around 23 pounds which is light enough that if you need to move it, you don’t strain yourself or struggle. It’s only 9.4 inches wide so it will fit into narrow spaces easily and stands just under 13 inches tall. It is 17.5 inches deep so it will need a long space to sit, but overall, this machine is very sleek.

Instead of using multiple buttons or symbols, the machine has a simple touchscreen display for ordering your drink. The screen is located on the top of the Jura A9 machine and lies flat, so it may be difficult for shorter people to read and is unfortunately difficult to use.

The touch screen may be a bit slow or unresponsive if you don’t press firmly on the espresso you want. Luckily, there is the option to pin up to four-drink to the home page so you don’t have to scroll through the menu options every time you want an espresso. Once you figure out which fourth drink are your go-to, you can save them to make all future mornings easier.

One great feature about the machine is that it will let you know when it’s running low on coffee beans or milk before it’s too late. It also has a power saving mode to keep the machine from running all day long and has easy cleaning cycles to keep the machine running smoothly at all times.

Brewing System

We won’t lie, the Jura Impressa doesn’t have the greatest brewing system. The machine is small and therefore won’t hold a lot of coffee beans or water at once in the water reservoir. It can hold up to 4.4 ounces of bean hopper at once and only 37 ounces of water in the water tank and water filter. In addition, the used grounds container can only hold enough A9 coffee grounds for about nine drinks. After that, it will need to be emptied.

If you’re planning on using the machine just at home with only a couple of people, you should be alright. However, if this machine is going to be used by an office and by several people, you’ll need to fill the beans and water often. You’ll also have to empty the used grounds container more often as well.

The conical burr grinder in the Impressa A9 is quite impressive. It’s stainless steel and is able to grind the beans quickly with its grinder and as fine as you want. It can be adjusted to grind the beans finer or coarser with its grinder, but you will find that you won’t want to adjust the granule size frequently. It’s more of a “set it and forget it” type of deal.

There are pre-set settings for each cup of coffee type that you may find are just fine. The beans will be ground more fine for espressos but left coarser for long coffees. If you aren’t someone who is super picky about their coffee bean to cup or tends to like the regular brews just fine, then the pre-set settings should be just fine.

The Impressa A9 has a pre-infusion system where it soaks the beans in hot water before beginning to grind your coffee with grinder. By exposing the beans to hot water beforehand, the coffee extracted is more flavourful and of higher quality. Unlike other models, the Jura Impressa A9 uses a smart brewing system that adjusts the amount of water the beans are exposed to based on how much espresso you’re brewing.

One feature of Jura that may be a deal breaker aside from the one-touch touch screen is the unadjustable boiler temperature. The Impressa A9 won’t let you make the espresso any hotter or colder than factory settings allow. It uses an aluminum boiler that heats quickly, but if you like your coffee piping hot, you may have to pop your fresh adjustable cup of coffee in the microwave to get it warm enough.

In some circumstances, the inability to adjust the boiler temperature may not be that big of a deal. However, if you’re going to spend over a thousand dollars on an automatic coffee machine, you deserve to have some control over how hot your cup of coffee gets.

Versatility and Quality

There are other Jura coffee machines that have more customizable features, but the Impressa A9 isn’t entirely useless. It makes many different types of drinks and has the ability to dispense hot milk or any liquid in the water tank depending on your preferences, but there are other machines that offer more features.

One particularly frustrating feature is that it can be difficult to adjust the strength. It is possible, but you’ll have to move quickly after selecting. If you don’t move fast enough, the coffee will begin to brew before you can adjust the strength. Once you figure out how the top machine works, though, this shouldn’t be that much of a problem.

This top machine does have a dual-brewing ability which makes brewing for two super easy. Any regular, liquid based coffees can be brewed easily, but if you’re making a milk based espresso, you’ll need to brew one cup at a time as the frothing only works one and a time.

The Impressa A9 does have a decaf feature which is great to use if you want a hot cup later in the day but still want to sleep at a reasonable time. You won’t even have to remove your usual coffee bean to cup as the machine has the ability to use a bypass chute and avoid the caffeine entirely.

Maintenance

Unfortunately, the brewing unit isn’t removable so you can’t clean it by hand. However, it has an advanced self-cleaning function. It will automatically run cleaning cycles and descaling based on how hard your liquid is and how often the machines are used.

In addition to the super automatic cleaning, the machines has a plastic calendar at the top of it so you can keep an eye on how often you should change the water filter and use. Other machines will alert you, but with the Jura Impressa A9, you’ll have to keep an eye on it yourself.

This is pretty easy to use and maintain and aside from when you use milk based, you won’t have to do much to keep it functioning. It is recommended that after using milk container to make an espresso, you clean the frothing mechanism, but that’s still pretty easy to use. It’s not very time consuming and will just ensure that it continues to run smoothly and doesn’t cut its lifespan short.

Is It Worth the Price?

The Jura Impressa A9 has many advanced features and we highly recommend this. It can make cappuccinos, espressos, mochas, latte macchiato doppio and just about any other specialty coffee you could want. It’s small and easy to store in your kitchen, but the size does work against it in some situations.

This can’t hold that much water tank or a large supply of bean hopper, but if you’re not using it too much or only a couple of people are actually using it at a time, neither of those pose that big of a problem. If you’re buying this for an office, it’s probably going to turn into a bigger hassle than you’d like.

The lack of customization is really a drag, but those who enjoy basic coffee may find this machine is just fine. Even with all the specialty coffee drink options including latte macchiato, there isn’t much you can do in terms of customization aside from coffee strength. If you want the ability to change your coffee to suit your specific needs, this isn’t the one to purchase.

The easy maintenance makes this machine great for home use. You don’t have to do much to keep it running and it’s pretty easy to run. The cleaning is self-automated and even though the bean aroma grinder isn’t removable, the great machine knows how to take care of itself well enough you shouldn’t worry about whether it’s clean or how.

You will have to keep on eye on when to replace the grinder water filter, but that’s made easy with an easy to read calendar on the top of the machine.

Jura E6 Review

Conclusion

Overall, this machine is pretty average. It’s expensive, but it does offer some good coffee varieties and isn’t difficult to maintain. We wouldn’t recommend it for a large office, but it’s certainly not a bad choice for those looking for an easy way to get their daily cup of coffee.

If you like the Jura A9 design or brand, they offer many other models that may suit your particular needs better. They may run more expensive, but if you’re purchasing a machine for the office or have picky tastes, it will be well worth it. On the other hand, if you aren’t that picky about your coffee and just need something basic, Jura A9 offers cheaper machines you can choose from too.

From this review Jura, if you live alone or with only one or two other people, this machine is an awesome buy. Impressa A9 One touch offers convenience easy to use and should serve you for a couple of days before something needs to be replaced. In any other situation, though, we’d recommend saving the money to purchase a different machine.
